Elwin Skiles Social Sciences Building
Hardin-Simmons University

The Social Sciences Building at Hardin-Simmons University responds to the desire to incorporate a "round-table" classroom into the design. The round-table room is placed on the second floor under the dome that tops the building and alludes to the political science function within. The circular core of the building creates a circular, Doric column supported corridor system that provides access to the classrooms on the first floor and the several Social Science departments on the second floor.

The exterior of the building incorporates the arched windows, limestone details and the HSU standard red brick. The building is placed near the new Pine Street entrance to the campus that ends in a clock tower with a carillon system that ties the Social Science Building and the Johnson Business Building.
