The Cypress Building
The Cypress Building was originally constructed as the Windsor Hotel in 1890 and is the oldest commercial building in Abilene. Its location near the Texas and Pacific Railroad assured its important role in the development of downtown Abilene. The hotel ceased operation in the 1950’s and it was converted to an office building.   Over the years the building had suffered from neglect and damage from ill conceived renovations that destroyed virtually all of the building’s architectural fabric.
The Tittle Luther Partnership was employed to rehabilitate the structure as a part of the revitalization of downtown Abilene. Based upon photographs and other descriptions, the building was rehabilitated and is now a contributing member of the Abilene Commercial Historic District and serves as the home of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce and the Abilene Industrial Foundation.
